Summary
West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) is planning to undertake the construction of a power plant in West Bengal, India.

The project involves the construction of a 1,000MW pumped storage power plant on 234ha of land, with four units of 250MW each.

The project will include the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, water storage tanks and related facilities, the installation of generators, transformers and safety systems, and the laying of transmission lines.

The project will secure 15 percent of funds from State Government and rest from external aid. The loan for the project will be taken by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA).

WAPCOS has been appointed as lead consultant to undertake the detailed surveys and investigations work on the project.

In August 2015, WBSEDCL is seeking for 40% grant from the Union Power ministry. After Power Ministry, the proposal has to be approved by Finance Ministry for disbursal.

In August 2016, project received the conditional planning clearance approvals from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

Pre-construction activities commenced from October 2016 by WAPCOS.

WBSEDCL is awaiting final approvals from State and Central Government.
